The Variety of Las Vegas Entertainment
I was not psyched about my trip to Las Vegas. We had a family reunion there, and I had little choice over the destination. After all, in my family it was all the patriarchs and matriarchs who got to choose where we were going to meet up. They were pretty fascinated with Las Vegas entertainment, but I could not see how it would be any good. I figured that the only Las Vegas entertainers would be showgirls and cheesy lounge acts. I was not interested in watching second rate magicians and third rate lounge singers strut their stuff. I did not realize what Las Vegas Nevada entertainment had to offer. I would find out soon, however.
The thing that surprised me most was the variety of Las Vegas entertainment available. It is true that most of the entertainment Las Vegas had to offer was stuff that would not interest me. There really were a lot of lounge acts. There were many old washed up singers. Whitney Houston and Tony Bennett both came through frequently.
Nonetheless, there was stuff up my alley as well. I have always been fascinated by good circus performers. I view it as kind of a guilty pleasure, but I had always dreamed of seeing Cirque du Soleil. In Las Vegas, I got that chance. They were one of the featured Las Vegas entertainment acts while I was there. I was surprised, as I did not think that they were touring.
I was also surprised to find out the amount of variety in musical theater. I knew that Las Vegas entertainment would involve a few musicals, of course, but I did not realize was that there were other things playing besides Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables. There is actually a fair degree of variety in Las Vegas entertainment. Rent was playing, which was something that I had been wanting to see for a long time. La Boheme was playing at the same time, which I thought was ironic. I even got to see a little bit of Wagner at a Las Vegas musical revue. I have to say that my trip has left me pleasantly surprised. I would not like to spend a lot of time in Las Vegas, but I have to admit that there are things to do there. Whatever your tastes, Las Vegas entertainment really is world class. If only there were not those casinos everywhere!
